Happy Belated ICLW!

I got a little behind and missed the beginning of ICLW.  I think I have something like 18 comments to write tonight.  Yeah, I'll get right on that....

But, the point is, I'm here now and since I haven't been great about participating the past few months, I think I'll treat you to my saga story.  It's on the "My Story" tab, this is the clif notes version

2002 - S and I got married.  Bliss.  Excitement.  Too many life changes ensued to TTC right away.

2007 - I thought we better get on this baby making thing.  I was 32, and S was 35.  No problem, right?  We'll just have back to back babies because we want 2 little rugrats.

2008 - Let the freakout begin.  I start weekly to 2x/week acupuncture, go through all the fertility testing.  Results?  Unexplained infertility (me).  S has super-sperm.  Figures.  But, the RE and my acupunturist are optimistic.  We go through a few IUIs which lead to hideous emotional mood swings thanks to fertility drugs.  Life kind of sucks, but we start considering other options, like adoption.

2009 - After deciding to adopt domestically, we opt to go with a local agency that only operates in our state.  The decision to use them was based on the informational meeting and their open and candid approach to adoption.  The fact that the cost is reasonable helps us to make a decision.  We are homestudy approved and officially a waiting family by the end of June.

2010 - Waiting, Waiting, Waiting.

2011 - Waiting, Waiting, 2 weeks before we have to update our homestudy for the second time, we get the phone call.  We are a confirmed match to a baby boy on a Friday.  The next Monday we meet him.  On Tuesday morning, we meet his first mother, C.  On Tuesday afternoon, we bring home a tiny 7-lb human being. Let the learning curve begin!

2012 - It's been a year of firsts, happiness, frustrations and now, therapy (for me).  As my therapist pointed out at my first meeting, nothing brings up mommy issues like becoming one.  *sigh*  I have some crap to work through, but doesn't everyone?  We start the process again to adopt a second time.  So far, it's been frustrating.  Our meeting to review and finalize the homestudy is this Friday and we'll be discussing more options with our caseworker.

Happy reading!

  1. Wow almost two years to wait? That is crazy. I know adoption can really stress a person out. My parents adopted my brother before they had me. Luckily back then it was an easy process and within a few months they had him and he was only a few weeks old at the time. Wish things were that easy now.

  2. Sending good thoughts for your homestudy!

And oh, yeah ... I think that parenthood gives us crap to work through, even if we didn't have any before! It's a re-education in Life.

Hang in there ... at least we are all in the same lifeboat together!

  3. Wow that is a long wait but I am sure it was worth it. Hope you can add to your family with a shorter wait. Take Care.
