I Wasn’t Planning on Posting Today

This morning I flipped on the local classical station and then noticed this statement coming from the radio “We’ll have an update on the tragedy in Aurora coming up next.”  This was at 6:30am or so as I was getting Baby X ready.   S was on his way out the door, feeling like crap because he has a cold, and I offhandly said “That’s weird, it must be serious if the classical station is running a news story.”  Normally, the classical station does top of the hour newsbreaks or something along those lines.  You don’t tune your radio to that station thinking you’re getting a run-down on the news every 15 minutes.  So, I missed the update as I was getting everything together for the day.
An hour later, I pulled out of the garage, and curious about what was going on, started flipping through radio stations to find someone who was talking about it.  That didn’t take too long, and I was overtaken by a feeling of dread.  One of the things that I find really interesting is how these stories rock me to my core despite not having any direct connection to them (I don’t know anyone who was there).  There is something about things like this happening in your town that just makes it feel different, more real.  I’ve spent much of today feeling a little off, and a little paranoid.

  1. (((Hugs))) It really does effect you when it's in your area. I was a couple of blocks away from the 101 California shooting and I'll never forget it.

  2. I've had lots of out-of-state family ask if we were OK. Like seriously? Would we drive all the way across town to see a MIDNIGHT showing with a 21 month old? We've had a babysitter once in the last 3 years and was at home, in bed by 9 pm.

My heart does go out to the families of the victims.
