I’ve been adrift in a sea of self-pity lately so it’s been difficult to come up with anything constructive to blog about. Today is no different but I thought I’d try to dredge up some positive thoughts to share. It’s been a month since our last update and no news. I’m finding it extremely difficult to be positive anywhere, especially at work, and now people are making comments that express how much I need to keep my sarcastic mouth shut before I stick my entire foot in it. There’s some flux going on in the workplace as well, which is frustrating everyone. Meanwhile S’s workplace is in a serious state of flux and it’s not helping his mood either.
Ok, I was going to be positive. We decided on a background color for the nursery. Not the actual color, mind you, but now at least we’ve narrowed it down to a rough color scheme. Progress! We are also finishing up the rest of the work from the last remodeling project. Now the kid won’t be able to take a header off our basement stairs into the laundry room. Painting 1x1 balusters was an entertaining afternoon. S got the ceilings in the kitchen and nursery. I’m not sure which one is more frustrating, but at least it’s done. We still have trim and doors to contend with as well as S’s masterpiece in the nursery.
The snow has been good for the most part, and yesterday, despite the howling winds, we managed to find some great stashes. It almost made the 3.5 hour drive home (normally 1.5 hrs at the most) worth it. Now, if I could just figure out what my problem is with my technique the ski season would be fantastic. So far, I’m pretty frustrated with my performance overall. Lately I’ve been freaking and mentally checking out which makes getting down a difficult run maddeningly slow. I’m not sure how to fix it. Oh right, I’m supposed to be positive…
I had coffee with Sooz this weekend. I love having the opportunity to meet the authors of blogs I follow. We had a nice long chat and I can’t wait to follow her progress.
I like my new car! On Chris.tmas Eve we bought a shiny new Pr.ius. With the CO tax break, 0% financing, and my mean negotiating skillz it made sense to buy it even if I could have found a used car cheaper. Besides, I’ve wanted one ever since they came out, but they were pretty expensive at first. It’s taken some getting used to with the super sloped windshield, and no sensation of shifting, but I’m getting comfortable.
That’s about all I can blather on about today. Maybe sometime soon I’ll have something profound to talk about. Or at least more focused.
Hang in there! I know I was just about to lose it, totally lose it, at the beginning of the year last year. I think it's something about the new year, looking ahead and changing the calendar, that really kicks up the frustration level during the wait. Hopefully the "dawn" is soon following all this darkness. What helped me was to plan several vacations that at least gave me something else to focus on every 6 weeks. Glad to hear you have the color scheme picked out - that is an accomplishment :) And painting is so much fun, and instant satisfaction when it comes together. Good luck to you and S with the work crap, and enjoy your fun new car!
ReplyDeleteIt was great meeting up with you on Sunday! I heard on the news about the horrendous traffic in the mountains. I'm glad, though, you were able to get some good runs in.
ReplyDeleteI know how hard it is to stay positive, but hang in there! I know that good things will be just around the corner!!
Thinking of you. We are just trying to hang in there too. The mother we were profiled to is MIA and we also learned that we have been profiled at least once in the past too, a tough pill to swallow even though I know that there are so many intangibles that lead to one family standing out to an expectant mother... Although, I will say that I have gotten so good at the waiting thing that I am sure I will have a mini freakout when it actually happens for us because I think I am convinced at some level that we will always in waiting mode...
