Presents!

Apparently my mom has been itching to do some baby shopping for quite some time. I should re-phrase that. She's been itching to give us a present she bought for us last fall. Yesterday we popped by their house after fruitless hours of searching for the "perfect" backsplash tile to see how their massive remodel is going on. Slowly but surely their house is coming together but things are still in a shambles. Despite that, my mom managed to not pack the gift in one of the many boxes that houses most of their belongings, and she even managed to remember where she had stashed it in the current "ground zero", the master bedroom. Quite impressive given the disarray. So, we walked away with an adorable hand-made quilt that I'll use to design the nursery, a knitted sweater that's really quite girly (I think she's hoping 'girl' since she would have liked my youngest brother to be a girl) and a totally cute pumpkin hat for Halloween! This is going to be one spoiled grandchild, that's for sure. :-)

On the remodel front. The stairs are fixed! This is a huge improvement in our "cute" old house considering the last set of stairs leading out the back door were like walking a tightrope. One wrong move and you're face-planting into the back door. In about a week the nasty tile counters and old built-in crappy cabinets will be a thing of a past. What that meant however is that we had to scramble this weekend to choose our soapstone (I've never been so damn excited to only have 3 choices), buy the sink, find a faucet (still haven't), and try to figure out the backsplash tile (a task of monumental proportions it seems). So, moving right along at light-speed it seems. Lots of decisions in a short amount of time, that's for sure!

  1. Love the gifts T! That baby will be loved and loved...how wonderful for you. Good idea about decorating around the quilt. It's really beautiful.

I hope you find the kitchen tile fast. I can only imagine what it's like to have a house remodeled. Hang in there.

Sounds like your weekend was pretty good. Did you do anything for the 4th?
